Chelsea 1 Wolves 1 – player ratings

Rui Patricio

Made a couple of good saves, notably from Gonzalo Higuain and Willian, with the latter almost bending one in the corner. Commanded his area well and his kicking was better too – he either played it short or went straight and long. May have had his confidence knocked by a hit-and-miss few weeks, as well as being left out at Cardiff, but if he did it didn't show here. 8/10

Romain Saiss

Replaced Ryan Bennett seamlessly in the back three. A fine defensive performance from the Moroccan international, with seven clearances and four tackles. Like the team he was disciplined and rarely gave anything away. A big call for Nuno next week now? He's been excellent for two games in a row, he'd be incredibly unfortunate to be left out. 8/10

Conor Coady

Only played 16 passes in the match, way down on his usual number, which tells you the problems Wolves had getting it out from the back. His usual ball to Doherty was rarely on. Swept up well and kept things oh-so organised among his fellow defenders. 7/10

Willy Boly

A colossal performance from Boly who threw himself at the ball time and again. Ten clearances was the most of anyone on the field. Booked when he barged Ruben Loftus-Cheek to the floor. Boly can have occasional lapses of concentration, but not here. 8/10

Matt Doherty

Won three headers, the most of any Wolves player, and was an important part of the last line of defence. A tough task against Eden Hazard but he held his own alongside Saiss. Earned a booking for bringing down the Belgian and also fouled him inches outside the box. 7/10

Ruben Neves

Played as a defensive midfielder, sitting in front of the defence. Arguably rushed ina bit too quickly for the equalising goal to allow Hazard to skip by him and shoot from 20 yards. Overall though he had a good afternoon protecting the back five. Almost teed up Jota for a golden chance with a superb pass but his team mate handled the ball. 7/10

Joao Moutinho

Like Neves, his afternoon was about defending, defending, and then defending some more. Very much part of the midfield three rather than in the hole behind the front two. Played just 21 passes in 90 minutes. Impressively disciplined. 7/10

Leander Dendoncker

Sometimes Dendoncker can be a luxury Belgian chocolate but here he was uncompromising full-fat mayonnaise squeezed all over Chelsea's fancy triple-cooked chips. Full on Doncker Kong beast mode. He can do box-to-box and do it well – but this showed he can do dirty, rugged, no-nonsense defending too. Won no fewer than eight tackles – one of the highest figures of the season from a Wolves player – and made a series of important interceptions while covering a hell of a lot of ground. Excellent. 9/10

Jonny Castro Otto

Only ventured forward on a couple of occasions during an afternoon that called for patience and concentration at Stamford Bridge. Up against the livewire Pedro and he restricted his fellow Spaniard’s attacking jaunts, with the forward struggling to get in behind. 7/10

Raul Jimenez

Struggled to hold the ball up, especially in the first half, and was given far less support up front than usual. Came alive for Wolves’ key moment of the game when he combined magnificently with Jota and stayed cool to put Wolves in front. That’s 14 goals this season, a wonderful return. Becoming nailed on to be player of the season. A class act. 7/10

Diogo Jota

A similar story as with Jimenez. Defended well from the front but didn’t pull up any trees in the Chelsea half – and then for the goal he produced some magic, sprinting from deep and playing a perfect pass for Jimenez to score. Lasted 81 minutes, more than recent weeks, which bodes well for next weekend. 7/10

One promising jaunt forward in a short cameo that was about defending from the front. 6/10
