The 32-year-old hasn't played a minute in the league since last season but Nuno wants his back-up keeper to get some game time before Wolves' huge FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United at Molineux in two weeks.

He did replace ever-present Rui Patricio for the visit of Cardiff City.

In an unusual move Nuno revealed the change in Friday's press conference.

He said: "In terms of who's going to play, we already made our decisions.

"Usually I don't do it but to avoid any kind of things, John Ruddy's going to play tomorrow, because we consider it's the right moment to prepare him for what's coming in front of us.

"In two week's time we're going to play the FA Cup and John Ruddy will be in goal, we consider this is the right moment for him to get some game-time competition and be stronger.

"We have a lot of confidence in the three goalies that we have. Rui's been playing, John's been playing in the cup, Will Norris until now didn't have a chance to play.

"In terms of confidence we have 100 per cent in all three."

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock said on Friday morning that Nuno was his wife's favourite manager.

Is Warnock popular in the Nuno household?

"I never ask my missus about that!" Nuno, who has clashed with Warnock in the past, joked.

"I admire Neil a lot, what he does it amazing. What he achieved last season, the way he competes, he always prepares his teams to fight and this spirit is admirable.

"It's his character. He's a natural competitor, so am I. The way we look at things, you must do everything you can to help your team to win.

"It's going to be very tough, they're a tough team, every aggressive, they have speed in front, very dangerous on set pieces."

Wolves lost 1-0 at Huddersfield on Tuesday to continue a poor record against teams towards the bottom end of the table, in contrast to their impressive results against the top six sides.

"I looked many times, if I had the answer (as to why) it wouldn't happen," Nuno said.

"If i had the answer, if someone did, it would be good it they can help me!

"The way we approach isn't going to change, we prepare and we're ready.

"It's not fair (to say we underestimated Huddersfield), that's not what happened, we always approach the same way and want to compete.

"When you don't perform you're not able to achieve the result. That's what happened.

"Huddersfield were strong and they beat us, they were better than us that evening."
