Rui Patricio

Despite the defeat Patricio comes out with credit having produced a good all-round performance. Began with a couple of confident punches from corners, there were no problems with his kicking all night and he made a couple of fine saves including from Grant for the winning goal when he was helpless to stop the rebound. 7/10

Ryan Bennett

Almost cost a goal when he allowed a cross to bounce in the six-yard box. Earned his ninth booking of the season, one away from a two-match suspension, when bringing down Stankovic. Pass accuracy was way down at 66 per cent, not that the midfield helped him. 5/10

Conor Coady

Not the most eventful night for Coady against his former club. A few decent clearances but otherwise he wasn't in the thick of the action. 6/10

Willy Boly

Picked up a knock early on when landing awkwardly. Made a superb block to deny Mounie early in the second half and had one of Wolves' better chances when he headed a Moutinho corner over. Should he have done better for the goal? He got a toe on Mooy's cross but could only help it on into the six-yard box. Was still the pick of the back three. 6/10

Matt Doherty

An ineffective night for Doherty who wasted Wolves' best chance of the night when he couldn't adjust his feet in time to covert a powerful Jota cross, sending the ball past the post when half the goal was gaping. Huddersfield did a good job of shackling those raking balls to the right flank and Doherty's influence was minimal. 5/10

Ruben Neves

For the second game in a row Neves was off the pace. Should be dictating games like this but a pass accuracy of 77 per cent and zero 'key' passes show how he didn't dominate midfield. When Cavaleiro was completely free near the right corner flag late on and Neves shanked his pass straight behind, it summed up his night. He'll bounce back – he has too much quality not to – but this was one of his worst performances in a Wolves shirt. 4/10

Joao Moutinho

Wolves' main threat all night with his continuously excellent set pieces. Corners created chances for Boly and Bennett while a free-kick on to Jimenez's head deserved better. Not as effective in open play but he still recycled possession well and it was a surprise to see him withdrawn on 65 minutes. 6/10

Leander Dendoncker

Anonymous for most of the first half, albeit without playing badly. Did the simple things well. Improved as the game went on, winning a couple of tackles and trying to force the issue, but overall this wasn't his night. 5/10

Jonny Castro Otto

Most of Wolves' play went through the Spaniard who touched the ball 104 times, more than anyone on the field by a distance (Schindler was next on 71). Got to the byline a couple of times in the first half and linked nicely with Jota, but often played the safe option. Tireless work ethic. 6/10

Raul Jimenez

A game too far? Was half a yard off the pace. Barely involved for long spells, his inventive link-up play and neat touches were absent and he barely had a sniff of goal. Tried his best but this wasn't his night. 4/10

Diogo Jota

Wolves' most likely source of inspiration. Tricked his way into some promising advanced positions including when he created Wolves' best chance for Doherty. As with Moutinho it was a surprise to see him substituted, but is perhaps still feeling the effects of his recent lay-off. 6/10

Substitutes

Morgan Gibbs-White (for Moutinho, 66)

Another big show of faith from his gaffer, who sent him on when Wolves needed inspiring. Gibbs-White did his best to do just that in what was one of the better substitute cameos he's produced in recent weeks. Some nice movement and touches but did lack that special moment Wolves were searching for in front of goal. 6/10

Ivan Cavaleiro (for Jota, 66)

Added a bit of urgency but not much end product. 5/10

Helder Costa

Twelve minutes, five touches and shirked a tackle. 4/10
