New Wolves LGBT group to meet for first time
The first meeting of the new official Wolves LGBT Supporters Group will be held at Molineux next month.
The group has been formed after the club held talks with two season ticket holders and the team behind the Pride of Molineux Twitter account. People are being invited to become a founder member or help set up the group.
The inaugural meeting will be held in the North Bank bar at 7pm on March 25 and is open to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender supporters or anyone who wants to support the group and decide its aims for the future.
There are numerous official LGBT supporters groups for Premier League and EFL clubs, with varying mission statements, goals and aims, but Wolves haven’t been officially represented until now.
Groups have been formed to help ensure LGBT fans feel welcome and comfortable at football grounds regardless of gender, age, race or sexual orientation, and as a campaigning tool to kick homophobia and discrimination out of football.
Wolves supporter liaison officer Dave Wood said: “We are delighted to be able to support and host the first meeting of the Wolves official LGBT Supporters Group, which we hope will be the birth of a very active, passionate and positive group of supporters who can represent the club with pride.
“The Pride of Molineux Twitter account has been doing an excellent job, but together we felt it was the right time to found an official LGBT Supporters Group, and as a club we will help however we can to support its foundation and growth.
“At Wolves we are committed to equality, diversity, inclusivity and challenging discrimination in all of its forms, and we hope the first official Wolves LGBT Supporters Group will be able to support us with these commitments.”
England’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Macedonia will also be screened live for those in attendance and the bar will be open until 10.30pm.
