John Ruddy

Oh John. There's no getting around it, no excuses about the ball being wet or the keeper being cold from a lack of game time. He wouldn't want any excuses to be made – it's just a dreadfully poor error whichever way you look at it. It was a bizarre spillage, he probably couldn't do it again if he tried. At least it didn't cost Wolves a place in the next round. 4/10

Ryan Bennett

A solid night's work for Bennett. Took a knock early on and need treatment for a couple of minutes but looked fine thereafter. 6/10

Conor Coady

Produced a crucial block to deny Whalley late on. Otherwise a fairly standard evening for the skipper. 6/10

Willy Boly

A couple of decent tackles in the first half and one impudent volleyed clearance which he seemed to strike with the studs on the bottom of his boot. Again, despite the fact Shrewsbury scored twice it was a fairly comfortable evening for the centre half. 6/10

Matt Doherty

The indomitable Matthew James Doherty. Three goals in the tie including a stoppage time equaliser at the Meadow and another injury time leveller here – in its own way just as important as Wolves crucially went in level at the break – plus an assist for the winning goal to boot. It feels like he's single-handedly dragged Wolves into the FA Cup fifth round. He's now netted six goals this season in all competitions, more than any other Premier League defender has managed. Plus a further five assists. Having the season of his life and he's doing so in the top flight of English football. 9/10

Morgan Gibbs-White

Not a natural position for Gibbs-White who struggled to get a grip of the midfield. Seemed to be trying too hard at times, with his fancy flicks ineffective when perhaps a simple pass was required. He'd have surely more enjoyed being in the '10' role on a bigger pitch, compared to the first tie. Not making the telling contributions he was in November/December, but it must be remembered he's only 19 years old and he'll be learning a huge amount, week by week. His corners were very impressive though – almost always on the money and one led to the first goal. And he never stopped looking for the ball. 6/10

Romain Saiss

Like Gibbs-White he never really dominated the centre of the park. Gave the ball away far too often and produced a couple of really sloppy passes. Not his night. 5/10

Jonny Castro Otto

A quiet evening for the wing-back. Involved in a couple of promising attacks in the first half, linking well with Costa and Cavaleiro and also scored with a perfectly executed volley, but we didn't see him cause Shrewsbury too many problems after the break. Solid defensively, though. 6/10

Adama Traore

About as an 'Adama Traore' performance as you could imagine. Had the beating of his man for fun – left-wing-back Ryan Haynes may have woken up in a cold sweat last night dreaming of the express train that is Traore stampeding past him time and again – but did lack end product, save for that cross for Jonny's volley. Seemed reluctant to shoot when in good positions. Good persistence in winning the ball back for the winner, foul or no foul. Looks much more comfortable on the right of a front three...but Wolves as a team now look better with a front two. 7/10

Ivan Cavaleiro

Was enduring a frustrating night...but ended up scoring the winning goal. And what a goal it was too – Cavaleiro showed strength, class, quality, skill, awareness and aplomb to shrug off his man, beat another and then fire past the keeper, having rolled his studs over the ball with a piece of sublime skill that we've seen before from the Portuguese forward (at Reading last season). We've not seen enough of this Cavaleiro in 2018/19, but he'll hope to have done enough to start again in the fifth round. 7/10

Helder Costa

Largely ineffective and played within himself...what has happened to Helder Costa? The man we saw terrorise defences in 2016/17 and parts of 2017/18 has been replaced with a forward who looks devoid of confidence. Not contributing enough, and he knows it. If he needs inspiration he should look no further than Diogo Jota, who didn't provide a goal or an assist for the first 14 matches and has completely transformed his form. Costa needs a turnaround sooner rather than later. 5/10

Substitutes

Joao Moutinho (for Costa, 69)

His experience helped Wolves see the game out. 6/10

Raul Jimenez (for, Traore, 77)

One decent shot when he took Doherty's pass and fired goalwards. 6/10

Niall Ennis (for Cavaleiro, 88)

He's only 19 years old but Niall Ennis' debut felt like a long time coming – this kid has been talked about since he was just 16 – and it was a very special moment for the Wolverhampton-born striker, even more so coming against the club who handed him his senior debut on loan last season. Only a couple of minutes to impress but he made the most of it with an impressive turn and through ball to Jimenez. Hopefully the first of many appearances. N/A
