Wolves will head to the Spanish Costa del Sol resort after Tuesday's FA Cup fourth round replay against Shrewsbury Town at Molineux – and return shortly before next Monday's Premier League clash against Newcastle United, also at Molineux.

Club bosses have been looking to fit in a trip after the success of last season's midwinter excursion to the same city. An FA Cup exit would have provided an obvious gap in the schedule but instead Wolves need a replay this week and, if they win that, will travel to Bristol City a week on Sunday.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 19C in Marbella this week with constant sunshine. Wolverhampton, meanwhile, faces 6C temperatures and prolonged rain showers.

Last January the players travelled immediately after a 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest amid their worst run of the season of four winless matches.

They returned to produce three successive wins to get their Championship title challenge back on track.

Nuno memorably said at the time of the trip that he and his players needed some Vitamin D.

There is no such bad form this time around. Wolves have just won three league games in a row for the second time this campaign, producing two of their best Premier League performances to beat West Ham 3-0 and Everton 3-1 in the past week.

Mid-season trips for clubs are commonplace. Liverpool also went to Marbella last month.
