Nuno calls for defensive improvements

Wolves will face a replay against Shrewsbury Town next week after a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

It's back to league action tomorrow for the visit of the Hammers.

And Nuno, who aside from the suspended Willy Boly has a full squad to choose from, wants to improve a recent run which has seen them concede 11 goals in five matches.

"The FA Cup is over for us and Shrewsbury, the next game is February," he said.

"We're pleased (with where Wolves are at) but we know that what is in front of us is more important and we have to improve.

"It's always our focus, our defensive organisation, and we have to improve and be more solid and compact. We have a chance tomorrow to put things right.

"Sometimes it's not only when the action (on the pitch) finishes where it starts, but we've been working on that so we expect to not repeat the same mistakes.

"What I know and I'm sure of is that we have to improve defensively, we're conceding too many goals, especially at home."

West Ham were dumped out of the FA Cup by AFC Wimbledon on Saturday but are only a point behind Wolves in the Premier League table.

"I always expect a tough game against a very good team," Nuno said. "They have come out of bad moments and both teams are ready to compete.

"They have a very good squad, a lot of talent, very good manager.

"We have to be switched on and ready to compete. We have to focus on West Ham, knowing what we want to do will require a lot of effort."

Wolves are believed to be in talks to make Jonny Castro Otto's loan deal from Atletico Madrid a permanent one.

Nuno wouldn't be drawn on that but he revealed his satisfaction with the player's performances.

"We're very pleased and happy with him, he also is happy to be here. He's working hard and staying focused

"Myself and Jonny, we only have to be focused on what's happening in the pitch, we don't get distracted by anything or anyone.

"He's very happy here, he has his family here, so everything is OK, but nothing has changed.

"During this period, there is so much speculation and rumour, you have to be focused and not distract yourself on what's happening outside."

Long-serving centre half Danny Batth is believed to be close to moving to Stoke City on a permanent deal.

The 28-year-old is currently on loan at Middlesbrough.

Again, Nuno didn't reveal if a move was close, but said: "Danny was our captain last season, he went to Middlesbrough, he's doing well, I cannot say anything else regarding that.

"We have very good memories of working together.

"When decisions are made, they're made with the concern of every part (of the deal).

"We're pleased to know Danny is playing and he's happy."
