Conor Coady calls for Wolves defensive improvements
Conor Coady has warned Wolves need to improve at the back after branding their defensive display against Leicester ‘not good enough’.
Wolves have conceded eight in their past three league games, albeit one of those was at Manchester City, and have only kept one clean sheet in 15.
And captain Coady, although delighted with the dramatic 4-3 win against the Foxes on Saturday, has called for Wolves to tighten up at the back.
“I was ecstatic to win but we should never have found ourselves in that position,” he said.
“We said at half-time to make sure we managed the game right and we never did that. To concede three at home isn’t good from our point of view. From a defensive point of view, we want to look at it and get better. The start of the second half wasn’t good enough.
“It was a tough day, Leicester are a good side but the goals weren’t good enough from our point of view.
“It’s hard to (focus) when you’re in the middle of something like that, especially when they scored the first goal and they’ve got their tails up. “You’re trying to speak to everyone to make sure we keep our shape and stay together.
“Then the second one goes in and you’re thinking we don’t need this.”
Wolves have one of the league’s smallest squads, with Willy Boly’s suspension meaning under-23 youngster Ryan Giles was on the bench on Saturday despite there being no injuries at Compton Park.
Coady, though, sees their squad size as a strength.
“Players know they’ll get their chance – we haven’t got a huge squad where you can pick from an array of players.
“These players are going to come in and do a job, they listen to the manager each and every day and they know their roles.
“You know they’re going to perform well.
“ Leander (Dendoncker) was fantastic, Romain (Saiss) came in and did really well, you know they’re to do that job for you.”
