Kevin Foley: Wolves can down Liverpool

Ex-Wolves player Kevin Foley says there's no reason Nuno Espirito Santo's team can't end Liverpool's unbeaten run – just as his team did against Manchester United seven years ago.

Kevin Foley faced Liverpool several times during his Wolves career

Foley was part of the Wolves team that ended United's 29-game unbeaten streak in February 2011.

The 34-year-old, who has recently started working with the Wolves academy as an under-13 coach, fancies Wolves to give Jurgen Klopp's table-toppers a stern test on Friday.

"Wolves will show no fear," he said.

"Klopp will treat Wolves as one of the most dangerous teams they can face in the Premier League.

"Wolves have shown they can upset the big sides and I don't think anyone will relish coming to Molineux.

"The way Wolves play is different to anyone else in the league. It'll be really interesting to watch, this is one of the best Liverpool side of my lifetime.

"But I don't see any reason why Wolves can't do it."

Foley was at Anfield in 2010 when Mick McCarthy's side beat Liverpool 1-0 thanks to Stephen Ward's winner.

And he came off the bench a few months later when Wolves overcame the odds to end the unbeaten run of Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

"At Anfield we had to play a patched-up team, Karl Henry was out injured and I was in midfield with Nenad Milijas," Foley recalls.

"Stephen Ward played up front and ended up getting the winner.

"We had nothing to lose, no one expected anything from us, we matched them up with 4-4-2 and went man for man all over the pitch.

"It was risky, we had Stearman marking Torres and others going one-on-one but we were bold and it really worked. It was one of my most memorable games in a Wolves shirt."

Foley added: "We weren't expected to beat Man United but Molineux has this way of delivering big performances.

"One of the main things I remember is George Elokobi and Doyler (Kevin Doyle) arguing over who headed the second goal in.

"George had scored the first and he wanted both – Doyler wasn't having it!

"I think George was being greedy, he'd scored against Man United in the cup earlier in the season too.

"Hopefully on Friday it'll be more of the same.

"As a player you definitely sense that crowd – you get an extra yard of pace of you're a bit harder in the tackle.

"Subconsciously it gives you that extra few per cent.

"It'll be a packed house, the last game before Christmas, Friday night, floodlights – what bigger occasion can you ask for?

"It's all set up for a classic and Wolves can go into it full of optimism.

"Wolves pushed Manchester City all the way, so why can't they do it?"
