Wolves' penalty shoot-out highs and lows – their record in full
Wolves bowed out of the Carabao Cup on penalties for the second year in a row when losing to Leicester City at Molineux last night.
They were beaten by Manchester City on spot kicks in the fourth round last season – and also lost their last Molineux shoot-out back in January 2015 to Fulham.
All of which begs the question; when was the last time Wolves won a penalty shoot-out? And what's their record from the spot in recent years?

September 2018 – Wolves 0-0 Leicester City (1-3 on pens), EFL Cup
Leicester keeper Danny Ward saved three Wolves spot kicks after a 0-0 draw in the Carabao Cup third round.

October 2017 – Manchester City 0-0 Wolves (4-1 on pens), EFL Cup
A cruel defeat for Nuno Espirito Santo's team. They took on Aguero, Sterling and Jesus and heroically took City all the way to penalties, roared on by a huge travelling gold and black army. But sadly they came up short from the spot.

January 2015 – Wolves 3-3 Fulham (3-5 on pens), FA Cup
This FA Cup third round replay was overshadowed by the death of Sir Jack Hayward earlier in the day. A cracker of a game that Sir Jack would have loved followed, with six goals shared before Matt Doherty's missed proved crucial with as Fulham netted all five of their penalties.

An instantly forgettable EFL Trophy game during the League One season. There were only 7,166 witnesses to a dreadful night's football.

September 2013 – Wolves 2-2 Walsall (4-2 on pens), EFL Trophy
A month earlier Wolves and Walsall played a rare encounter at Molineux in front of 13,481. Aaron McCarey saved Walsall's first two penalties after an entertaining 2-2 draw. This remains their most recent shoot-out win.

August 2012 – Wolves 1-1 Aldershot Town (7-6 on pens), EFL Cup
A rare sight indeed (no, not a Frank Nouble goal) as Wolves scored all seven of their penalties to dump out the mighty Aldershot.

Wolves had a nasty habit of exiting the EFL Cup on penalties to lower league opposition in the 2000s. Jody Craddock's sudden-death miss saw Mick McCarthy's team dumped out.

There were only 5,000 at Turf Moor to see Seol Ki-Hyeon score in regular time in this all-Championship clash, but the game went to penalties and Carl Cort and Seyi Olofinjana both missed.

October 2002 – Rotherham 4-4 Wolves (4-2 on pens), EFL Cup
How on earth did Wolves lose this? They were winning 3-1 with 11 minutes to play thanks to goals from Shaun Newton (penalty), Kenny Miller and Alex Rae. They capitulated late on and it went to extra time at 3-3, then had to be indebted to a Rob Scott own goal in the 120th minute to take it to penalties, where Newton (and Denis Irwin) missed.

January 2000 – Wolves 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday (3-4 on pens), FA Cup
Wednesday got their revenge after Wolves' famous win five years earlier following a poor FA Cup fourth round replay.

February 1995 – Wolves 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday (4-3 on pens), FA Cup
One of the most remarkable penalty shoot-outs in FA Cup history. The first five spot kicks were perfect for the Premier League visitors (Wolves missed two, Wednesday scored three) but the next seven were perfect for Wolves as Wednesday missed three in succession and Wolves scored four in a row to complete an astonishing comeback. If you were there and the above video doesn't raise the hairs on the back of your neck, you aren't human.
There were so many narratives to the shoot-out – Chris Waddle was taking his first penalty since his famous Italia 90 miss, Chris Bart-Williams had seen his penalty in the first game saved by Paul Jones to force a replay and Jones was his scourge again, Andy Thompson never missed penalties but did here and goalkeeper Kevin Pressman blasted home just about the most unsaveable penalty of all time. Wow.
