Sixty-four percent of fans voted for his goal which left a packed Molineux stunned on April 11, beating Jack Grealish’s volley for Villa against Cardiff and ex-Wolves midfielder Lee Evans’ strike for Sheffield United.

Neves fired a looping 30-yard volley into the top corner in Wolves’ 2-0 victory over the Rams.

The 21-year-old Portuguese playmaker said: “It was a fantastic goal, my favourite goal, but the most important thing was that we won the game.

“It was a corner for us and if I lose the ball there, it’s dangerous for our team, so I had to take a risk, but fortunately for me, I scored this goal.

“My first touch, the ball went a bit behind me, so I had to adjust my body a little bit to get the touch, but I don’t have too much to say because it was an incredible goal and I’m just happy to help the team.

“When you play, you have your characteristics, and one of mine is shooting from outside of the box.

“I have to improve, I have to take risks and I look forward to scoring more goals like this.”

Goal of the month judge and former Wolves striker Don Goodman said: “Neves’s strike was a deserved winner, and quite possibly the goal of the season, too.”
