"That's why we love the game," was Nuno Espirito Santo's assessment as Wolves beat Cardiff in the most dramatic of fashions to go nine points clear.

The Bluebirds spurned two penalties in injury time as Wolves somehow held on to win 1-0 thanks to Ruben Neves' brilliant 25-yard free kick.

Nuno said: "It's a massive result for us, coming here to play against Cardiff is very difficult.

"Until the last moments of the game we were in control and had good chances to make a different result.

"We're very conscious we still have a long way to go.

"I love the game every since I remember. Sometimes like today it gives to you, and sometimes it takes away.

"Today I won with two penalties missed in the last minute of the game. Football is like that. That's why we love it.

"I repeat myself (though), we should avoid that (finish)."

John Ruddy saved Gary Madine's spot kick in the 93rd minute and then Junior Hoilett smashed a 95th minute penalty against the bar in the last action of the game.

Nuno raced onto the field at full time to celebrate wildly with his players and 3,000 disbelieving Wolves fans.

Neil Warnock was furious with Nuno not shaking his hand, gesticulating at him and shouting **** off moments later, before later saying he didn't give a t*** that Nuno wanted to apologise.

The Wolves boss: "I apologise, but at the same time I hope everybody understands it's very difficult to control your emotions after a finish like that.

"I wanted to give a big hug to big John (Ruddy) because today he was unbelievable for us.

"Football requires we have to fight.

"It was two different styles – it's not a question of judging what's best. It's your idea, the way you approach.

"We are a team that has a philosophy of controlling a game by possession but we have to defend.

"I admire the players of Cardiff, they are fighters who don't give up.

"Football is always innovating and it's a fantastic game. That's why we love it so much. It can give and take.

"I think we deserve it. if you look at the game, we had chances not to suffer in the end but that's why people voted for Ruddy in the Championship team of the season and he gave us victory.

"I was not even thinking about the first penalty (when second was awarded) but I think we should control the emotions better which is my job."
