Cardiff vs Wolves: The inside track on the Bluebirds

Wolves take on second-placed Cardiff in one of the biggest games of the weekend on Friday evening.

Ahead of the game, Luke Hatfield spoke with Dominic Booth, digital sports writer for WalesOnline to get a proper look at Neil Warnock's side.

Wolves obviously got beaten by Cardiff earlier this season, do you think Neil Warnock's side will have that game in their thinking this time around?

Cardiff might want to have it in their minds, rather than Wolves.

It was almost the perfect display of counter-attacking football from the Bluebirds, sitting deep with their robust defence and breaking forward.

Whether it will have any bearing on this game remains to be seen because so much has happened since then.

Cardiff have been imperious in recent times and are one of the form teams in the league, how have things changed since the last season?

The Warnock factor.

He has brought belief, a competitive squad and a coherent playing style to a club previously on its knees.

In Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett he signed two free agents, in October 2016, who have become two of the best players in the division and are pivotal to everything Cardiff do.

The confidence is the biggest thing that has changed under Warnock; everyone connected with the club believes they can get over the line and win promotion.

With this phenomenal league form, do you think Cardiff could well push on and secure automatic promotion, or are there still worries they could be caught?

For as long as Fulham's incredible unbeaten run continues, there will always be anxiety.

But Cardiff are 13 games unbeaten themselves and snatched a precious late equaliser at Sheffield United on Easter Monday to really boost confidence further.

Have Cardiff done much transfer business through January? Could their business play a part in the game?

Most of their January additions have failed to break into the first team.

But Gary Madine (striker), Armand Traore (left back) and Yanic Wildschut (winger) have all spurred on the players already in their positions.

In Marko Grujic, Warnock found an excellent loan signing from Liverpool too and he will look to control things in midfield.

Junior Hoilett is a man who's been in fine form for Cardiff this season, is he likely to cause Wolves problems, or could someone else worry Nuno's side?

I would say Hoilett, yes.

He was a surprise omission from the Championship team of the season, along with Bamba.

Those two have been Cardiff's most consistent performers.

Do Cardiff have any injury problems to worry about?

Joe Ralls is rated 50-50 to feature as he battles back from a hamstring injury.

Danny Ward, Jazz Richards and Matt Connolly are all sidelined.

How do you expect Cardiff to face up against the league leaders?

They should line up, in a 4-3-3, as follows: Etheridge; Manga, Morrison, Bamba, Bennett; Grujic, Gunnarsson, Paterson; Mendez-Laing, Hoilett, Zohore.

What do you make of Wolves' promotion credentials, judging by what you've seen, could they cut it in the Premier League?

Certainly they have the quality players to compete, if promoted, in the top division.

I've been impressed every time I've seen Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and the other Portuguese imports in action, while Matt Doherty, Conor Coady and Barry Douglas all seem solid British-based talents.

Your match prediction?

It's a blockbuster so I can see goals, entertainment, but nothing much to separate the teams. 2-2.
