The achievements of the greatest manager in the club's history are well known in these parts - but just how much do you know about the legendary figure?

The three league titles, the floodlit friendlies - those tales have been told on the terraces for decades but could you, for example, name the army unit Cullis served in during the Second World War or England's opponents the only time he captained his country?

That was the task that faced David Love, from Wombourne, as he took his seat in the famous Mastermind chair.

The financial planner chose Cullis as his specialist subject on the iconic BBC quiz and had questions with varying degrees of difficulty on the great man fired at him by veteran host John Humphrys.

David kept calm under pressure and put in an impressive performance, reeling off answers, only tripping up once when he said Wolves finished 17th in the First Division in Cullis' last season in charge rather than 16th.

He was given a nice starter for anyone familiar with Wolves in the Cullis era - which team did they beat 3-1 in the 1949 FA Cup final, the answer being Leicester City.

The questions gradually got more difficult as David was asked to name the club Cullis played a trial game for in 1933 (Bolton Wanderers), the army unit he served in during the war (Physical Training Corps) and the Yorkshire-based nursery club which provided players to Wolves (Wath Wanderers), with David confidently delivering the correct answer for each.

David's final question was to name to Liverpool player who scored the winning goal at Molineux when Wolves only needed a draw to win their first league title after Cullis did not commit a professional foul to stop him, the answer being Albert Stubbins.

With just the one incorrect answer and no passes, Cullis expert David scored an impressive 11 points.

Unfortunately, David couldn't quite match his performance on his specialist subject in the general knowledge round, finishing with a total of 17 and coming joint third overall.
