There were reports this morning that City could have breached competition rules by making two substitutes in extra time at the Etihad Stadium last night, with rules appearing to imply that only one sub could be made in that period.

But the EFL today confirmed that rules state four subs can be made across 120 minutes, with no bearing on how many are made inside 90 minutes or the 30 minutes extra time.

A spokesman said: "No rules have been broken. Rules state that four subs can be made in a game. It doesn't matter if it's two in 90 minutes and two after.

"There's no problem there. I think it came about because of some quotes the Norwich manager (Daniel Farke) had said."

Norwich also crashed out at Arsenal after the Gunners also made two changes in extra time.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men missed out on a quarter-final spot on penalties at the runaway Premier League leaders after defiantly keeping City's superstars at bay for 120 minutes.
