Wolves were dumped out of the competition last night despite their heroics, but there were reports the match in Manchester could be probed by Carabao Cup bosses, according to reports, as City made two substitutions in extra time.

Under new rules, clubs are allowed to make a fourth substitution in the competition if games go to extra time. But the rules also seem to imply that only one sub is allowed to be made after 90 minutes, whereas city brought both Leroy Sane and Kyle Walker on in extra time.

The rule reads: "Each team is permitted up to seven substitutes of whom not more than three may take part in the match.

“Where any match goes to extra-time each club will be permitted to use an additional sub (in extra-time only).”

There was confusion as to whether this means clubs are allowed to make as many substitutions in extra-time, so long as it does not add up to more than four across the whole game, or whether teams can just make the one regardless of how many subs they brought on in normal time.

However the EFL quashed any hope today, by confirming City did not break any regulations.
