A much improved Albion side came out in the second period, but despite pressing to find an equaliser they couldn't break down Boro's steadfast defence.
With the Baggies pushing for a winner, Ashley Fletcher's stunning late volley sealed the points for the visitors, as Albion suffered their first home league defeat of the season.
