Next West Brom manager: Chris Wilder runaway early favourite to replace Sam Allardyce

Chris Wilder is the runaway early favourite to take over at West Brom following Sam Allardyce's decision to step down at the end of the season.

Former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.

Allardyce confirmed his decision to stand down immediately after Albion's 3-1 defeat to West Ham, announcing he will leave the club following the final game of the season at Leeds.

Albion offered him the chance to remain in charge as the club drop back into the Championship, but the former England boss did not take up that chance, and will leave ahead of the summer.

Bookmakers are already accepting bets on his replacement, with former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder the runaway favourite.

Wilder is 1/3 to be named the next Baggies boss, well ahead of the chasing back, according to the bookies.

He famously guided the Blades back to the top flight, but left this season as they struggled and became the first club this season to have relegation confirmed.

Second in the running is former Chelsea and Derby boss Frank Lampard at 14/1, he remains as likely as ex-Albion assistant Graeme Jones who's available at the same price.

Ex-Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, heavily tipped to join Celtic is available at 16/1 alongside Mark Hughes, Nicky Butt and another former Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo.

Current Aston Villa assistant John Terry is an outsider at 25/1 alongside Swansea boss Steve Cooper.
