Euro place threat for West Brom winger Kamil Grosicki

A hugely popular figure in his homeland, Grosicki has been a mainstay in Poland’s attack since 2008.

But the Baggies forward has struggled for minutes at The Hawthorns ever since joining from Hull back in January.

At the beginning of the season, Grosicki and striker Charlie Austin were told to train with Albion’s under-23s by former boss Slaven Bilic.

With results disappointing, both players managed to work themselves back into contention.

Grosicki then got a chance to impress under new boss Sam Allardyce when he started against Wolves and West Ham last month.

The 32-year-old put in steady displays in both those games but hasn’t been involved in a match day squad since – with Allardyce subsequently confirming he was available for transfer.

It is understood the winger turned down the chance to join Nottingham Forest in January, a side that were also keen to sign him in the summer.

And in recent days, Grosicki has been linked with a move to Polish side Pogon Szczecin – the club where he began his career.

But a move there now appears to be off the table after they signed fellow winger Rafal Kurzawa.

The transfer window in Poland doesn’t close until Wednesday, meaning Grosicki could still secure a return to his homeland.

And now Zbigniew Boniek – the head of the Polish Football Association – has warned Grosicki must start playing football at Albion or elsewhere to be sure of a place in the national side for this summer’s European Championships.

“Kamil does not play and it saddens me, because this is how the team for 2020/21 moves away from the project,” he said.

“Grosiki is a symbol of the staff in the last six to eight years.

“You could always count on him, he was always useful. I have a soft spot for him, we sometimes write on social media.

“But the representation must include players who are in shape and who play every day.”

Meanwhile, Grosicki’s agent Daniel Kaniewski has confirmed a move away from Albion isn’t imminent for the winger.

“Kamil has no offer – neither from Pogon nor from another club,” he said.

“I repeat: nothing is happening at the moment. Kamil has no offer. Today he is a West Bromwich Albion player with whom he has a few more months of an important contract.”

Back in the summer, Grosicki said he hoped to remain with Albion and force his way into the first-team.

But after again being told his playing time would be limited, he agreed terms on a deal to join Forest.

The paperwork for that deal, though, was submitted 21 seconds after the transfer window closed. That led to the move collapsing.
