Robert Snodgrass backs improving West Brom to pull off 'Great Escape'

Robert Snodgrass believes Albion were showing signs of improvement even before their impressive display against Manchester United.

And the former Scotland international says the team spirit that exists inside the camp makes him feel they can defy the odds and pull off a great escape.

Snodgrass became Sam Allardyce’s first signing as Albion boss when he arrived from West Ham back in January.

Since then the 33-year-old has featured six times for the Baggies – with his ability both on and off the ball making him integral to the side.

Only one of those matches Snodgrass has appeared in ended in a heavy defeat, with Albion thumped by table-topping Manchester City last month.

And the former Norwich man feels recent performances should have resulted in more points on the board.

“We’ve been in every game I have played in apart from Manchester City which was a tough one to take,” Snodgrass said. “But we have been capable of winning every other game I have been involved in.

“He (Allardyce) is getting the lads buying into what he does – which is keeping teams in the Premier League and winning football matches.

“We’re all trying to pull in the same direction so it’s been great coming in here.

“The main thing now, though, is points on the board.

“Collectively we have to stop conceding goals – because that is what wins you football matches. We are scoring goals so it’s crucial we stop the ball going into our net.

“We will keep working on it on the training ground until we get it right.”

Albion now head into four games against sides also struggling at the wrong end of the table.

The Baggies travel to take on Burnley on Saturday before then facing Brighton, Newcastle and Crystal Palace.

Allardyce’s side had a huge change to get some points on the board a few weeks ago when they faced Fulham and Sheffield United – the sides that currently sit alongside them in the relegation zone.

But despite leading both games, they ended up taking just one point from the six available.

Snodgrass, though, says there is still a belief in the camp that Albion can get themselves out of trouble.

“We have to believe,” he continued. “We were in the lead against both Fulham and Sheffield so we could have picked up five or six more points.

“But we can’t think about that now, nor can we stop believing in this group of players.

“Even those who aren’t being picked to play aren’t just biding their time. They are supporting the lads that are playing.

“It’s a great group of lads that we have got.

“The team that is going to get out of this relegation fight is the one that puts a run of results together. It’s as simple as that.”
