Sam Allardyce hoping he’s hit on right West Brom formula

Sam Allardyce is hopeful he has now found a formation that suits his Albion squad following their impressive performance against Manchester United.

Prior to the match against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, the Dudley-born boss admitted he hadn’t found his best team or system despite having been in charge of the Baggies for 10 Premier League games.

Against United, though, Albion put in their display under Allardyce in a new 4-3-3 formation.

It was a system that meant the boss was able to find roles for Robert Snodgrass, Mbaye Diagne, Okay Yokuslu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles – his four January recruits.

And with Darnell Furlong coming on at half-time and impressing after Lee Peltier picked up a knock, Allardyce isn’t expected to make any major changes for Saturday’s crucial clash at Burnley.

“We’ve got to give it a run after the performance against Manchester United,” Allardyce said when asked if he will now stick with a 4-3-3 formation.

“We got an injury to Lee Peltier at right-back.

“But we’ve got Darnell who came on and did very well anyway.

“Every manager wishes he could pick the same team every week because performances warrant it.

“Let’s hope we can be picking the same team on a regular basis from hereon in.”

Allardyce was particularly pleased with midfield trio Yokuslu, Maitland-Niles and Conor Gallagher against United.

“I thought those three worked extremely well together,” he continued.

“It looks like a good combination. It looks like it will work well.”
