Sam Johnstone
Maybe harsh to level any blame on him for the opener, wasn't helped by his defenders one bit.
Was peppered second half and made some great saves to keep the score down. Didn't have a chance with either second half strike. 7
Darnell Furlong
Completely lost his man for El Ghazi's opener, allowed the Dutchman acres of space at the back post and was punished. Villa saw plenty of their attacks go down his flank.
Looks far more comfortable as a wing-back with three central defenders. 5
Semi Ajayi
Handled himself fairly well early on, used his pace and power well enough against Ollie Watkins first half.
Was steadfast with his defending and put in a solid display until he blotted his report card by bundling over Grealish in the box. 5
Dara O'Shea
Back in his preferred central position, and was busy throughout such was Villa's threat.
Did his best to mop up and help out Gibbs when he could. Put in a battling display as Albion tried to stand firm second half. 7
Kieran Gibbs
Was up against it first half, with Traore and Cash making life hard for the ex-Arsenal man. A lot of Villa's early good play came down his flank.
Allowed the winger too much room to whip in the cross for El Ghazi's goal. 5
Matt Phillips
Struggled to work his way into the game and didn't cause Villa nearly enough problems going forward.
Had a tough evening defensively, with Villa finding all kinds of joy down his side. Came off for Austin with Albion hunting a goal. 5
Romaine Sawyers
Almost anonymous in the first half, never had much chance to pull the strings as the visitors dominated. Struggled after Livermore's red too with Villa outnumbering Albion in midfield.
Did most of his work defensively in the second half. 5
Jake Livermore
Provided much of the fight in Albion's midfield, but that fight went a step too far just after the half hour mark, needlessly dived in on Grealish and saw red.
Frustration after a disappointing first half got the better of him. 3
Conor Gallagher
Normally such a dynamo, but didn't start brilliantly - was guilty of allowing Bertrand Traore too much room to whip in his cross for the opener.
Did well to snuff out an opportunity for Watkins first-half. Didn't really have any opportunities to threaten Villa's goal. 5
Grady Diangana
Was the bright spark for the hosts going forward in the first half, but was often doubled up on.
On the end of a shocker of a challenge from Hause in the first half and lucky to get away unscathed. 6
Karlan Grant
Absolutely starved of service, barely had a sight of the ball in the first period.
Similar story in the second half. Worked hard, but without any service it's hard to expect much more from him. Replaced by Robinson late on. 5

Branislav Ivanovic (for Diangana)
Came on in a back three as Albion changed shape and was assured enough.
Didn't have a brilliant time though with Villa netting twice as Albion opened up, hard to level too much blame on him though. 6
Charlie Austin (for Phillips)
With the Baggies needing a goal, Austin was brought on to provide a threat in the box.
Albion opened up and pushed up, but never supplied him with any service though, so he didn't have any real influence. 6

Didn't have close to enough time to have any kind of impact. N/A
