Slaven Bilic: West Brom performance nowhere near good enough

Slaven Bilic admitted Albion’s performance at Fulham was nowhere near good enough after his side fell to 2-0 defeat.

In a match that was always going to have a big say on events at the bottom of the Premier League, Bilic’s men completely underperformed in the capital.

First half goals from Bobby Decordova-Reid and Ola Aina won it for the hosts.

But Scott Parker’s side could and arguably should have won by a greater margin with Albion second best all over the park.

Prior to the game, Bilic had said the Baggies were moving in the right direction after decent performances against Burnley and Brighton.

But the boss couldn’t hide his disappointment following his team’s display in London - with Fulham deserving winners.

“It was very disappointing,” Bilic said.

“I said before the game we were looking forward to it because the last couple of games we have played really well.

“We looked really good in training. We had a lot of intensity, a lot of quality. But when we needed to produce it on the pitch we didn’t do it.

“They were stronger than us, sharper, quicker. They passed it better. They were better one against one.

“That is what really hurts, that we didn’t deserve a thing from this game. We can’t say we were unlucky, we can’t say that we missed chances. No. They were much better than us.”

Bilic felt midfielder Conor Gallagher and defender Branislav Ivanovic were the only players to leave Craven Cottage with any credit.

“Everything starts with work rate,” the Croatian continued.

“I saw a young kid - Conor Gallagher, and I saw Barni Ivanovic - who is 30 something - who basically had more commitment.

“That’s not good when, to the eye, they’re doing more than the others. It looked to me like that, and it can’t be the case.

“This is the Premier League and we are the team who can’t rely on quality only.

“We have to dig in and work hard, as we’ve done in the last couple of games. If we don’t do that we have no chance.

“I don’t question the commitment in general. I told you it looked really good, but against Fulham we didn’t have it. We were not good enough.”
