The 19-year-old impressed on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship last season, and made 44 appearances for the struggling side who were eventually relegated.

Albion are contemplating a loan deal for the England under-20 international, whose brother is Watford player Nathaniel Chalobah.

He is on a list of potential signings, but no offer has been made to Chelsea yet.

Even though incoming Blues boss Frank Lampard will be tasked to develop their youngsters, Chalobah is expected to be let out on loan again.

A versatile player capable of filling it at centre-back or defensive midfield, the teenager would add energy to Albion’s midfield while providing Championship experience.

The Baggies are keen to lower the average age of their squad this summer, and will be delving into the loan market once more.

In midfield, Albion have already released James Morrison and lost Stefan Johansen back to parent club Fulham.

Albion are still expected to complete a loan move for Croatian playmaker Filip Krovinovic, although the 23-year-old may now meet up with the squad in Spain next week instead of flying over to England this week.

Albion’s trip to Derby County on Saturday, August 24, has been moved to the earlier time of 12.30pm for live television coverage.
