West Brom v Brighton preview: Big chance to progress in FA Cup and shine in front of millions

With this FA Cup fourth-round replay being shown live on terrestrial television, the eyes of the country will be on both Albions.

But that exposure won’t stop Darren Moore keeping faith in the team that battled admirably to a goalless draw at the Amex Stadium in the original tie.

Albion’s second string impressed on the south coast 11 days ago, and their reward is a chance to shine in front of millions.

The BBC are descending on The Hawthorns tonight, bringing 21 cameras and roughly 120 staff.

But Moore is concerned about local impressions, rather than national ones.

“These are occasions where names can be made with a moment of brilliance or a performance,” said Moore.

“But for me, it’s not about performing to a wider audience, it’s about them performing for West Bromwich Albion and showing why we have such belief in them.”

Moore named seven academy graduates in his squad for the original tie, and youngsters like Jonathan Leko and Kyle Edwards could be given another outing.

“The fans like home-grown players and it was great to see them getting behind the seven who were involved (in the first game),” said Moore.

“Hopefully they will get a real flavour of what we’re doing here because I don’t think we’ve ever nurtured this number of players at any one time.

“We’ve got some wonderful youngsters in the background coming through. They’re there because of the hard work they’ve put in.

“They’re starting to get the rewards for the faith we’ve shown in them and the icing on the cake for us is they’re all home-grown. They’re all local boys.”

Whether Rekeem Harper and Sam Field play is less sure, because both featured in the gruelling defeat to Middlesbrough at the weekend although Moore said: “We’ll expect their bodies to recover in time.”

Jake Livermore and Chris Brunt didn’t start on Saturday, and will also be available, although Matt Phillips remains sidelined and James Morrison is still a doubt.

None of the trio who joined on loan on deadline day will be able to play, having been signed after the original tie.

But with so many Premier League clubs already out, and a fifth-round draw at home to Derby County on the cards, there is a chance for Albion to go deep in the competition.

“You can dream!” said Moore. “But before we can even start going down that road, we’ve got real tough opposition coming here.

“Chris (Hughton) is a proven manager, I’ve got a huge admiration for him, he’s somebody I look up to and aspire to because of his continual work and consistency.”

The furthest round Moore reached as a player was the quarter-finals, and that was under Gary Megson with the Baggies in 2001/02.

“I remember all the excitement that surrounded it,” said Moore. “It was an excellent time.”

Tonight, he’ll be hoping his Albion side moves within one step of his record.

Likely line-up

The opposition - Chris Hughton urges Brighton to capitalise on draw

Chris Hughton wants his Brighton side to capitalise on one of the most open FA Cup draws in years.

After a number of shocks removed Premier League sides from the competition, Chelsea have been drawn against Manchester United in the fifth round.

That means a maximum of two clubs from the traditional big six will reach the quarter-final stage this year.

Top-tier Brighton will be favourites against both the Baggies and Derby County, who they will host in the fifth round should they win tonight.

And Hughton wants his side to grasp the opportunity, although he’s warned his players to take Darren Moore’s men seriously.

“I see the possibility of Wembley opening up for somebody, because this year in particular there are a lot of Premier League clubs out of the competition,” he said.

“But you can’t go into a game thinking a match will be easy, because as soon as you do, you won’t get through to the next round.

“Even the thought of a home game against Derby you can’t think that way, because as soon as you start thinking that way you are not going to get through the next tie which is a very difficult game at West Brom.

“It’s a big challenge for us up against a side who are doing well in the league; they’ll be giving it everything to get straight back up to the Premier League and they’ve brought in some good players during January.

“But I do see the competition opening up for some that are not the favourites and that’s a great thing for this competition.”

Brighton can’t ignore their league campaign though, because they are starting to look nervously over their shoulder in the Premier League following a run of one win in 10.

The Seagulls are currently five points clear of Cardiff City, but a number of clubs below them have picked up some form and they have a crucial game against Burnley looming this weekend.

Hughton is expected to make changes to his team.

Brazilian full-back Bernardo will make his comeback from injury, and £17million club record signing Alireza Jahanbakhsh is due to play his first game since representing Iran in the Asian Cup.

Defender Dan Burn, who was recalled from Wigan in January and played in the original tie, is also likely to feature. Dale Stephens is injured.

“The biggest thing for me is the competitive squad that I currently have at my disposal,” said Hughton.

“It’s the most competitive we’ve had it throughout my time here at the club, even with the few injuries we have at the moment. You have to be able to use that squad and use the competition; that will always be the case.”

Brighton dangerman - Alireza Jahanbakhsh

Brighton’s club-record £17million summer signing has been plagued with injury this season, but he’s just returned from helping Iran reach the semi-finals of the Asian Cup and will be desperate to prove himself. After the Seagulls drew blank in the original tie, could the 25-year-old provide more cutting edge?

Albion's key man - Kyle Bartley

Plenty of eyes will be on the youngsters, but Bartley was brilliant in the original tie and will be looked to provide leadership for Albion’s second string. He will also need to keep the likes of Jahanbakhsh quiet, because a third successive shut-out in this competition may be enough to see the Baggies through.

Memory Lane

In April 1993, Andy Hunt scored a hat-trick against Brighton on his home debut for the Baggies in a 3-1 win. He scored in each of his first four games for the club.

What Darren Moore says

"For me it is still ‘the’ Cup, I know there are others. But there’s the history of the FA Cup and it gives everyone the opportunity to try and live the dream."
