West Brom players chip in to cover Leeds travel costs
Albion’s players are clubbing together to pay for their supporters’ coach travel to Leeds United at the start of next month.
Adult Baggies face a huge £39 ticket price for the promotion six-pointer, which has also been moved to a Friday night slot to be shown live on Sky.
And so the first team have decided to pick up the bill for their travelling costs, and have laid on free coaches for the fans.
Club captain Chris Brunt said: “We wanted to show our appreciation for the fans and especially those who have backed us on the road this season.
“When the details for this game were announced, it seemed the right one to try to offer a helping hand.
“We appreciate we are in the middle of a really busy schedule that is making great demands on the pockets and the time of our supporters. It is always great to see them when we run out at away games and every voice is important to us.
“We wanted to show our appreciation to them. Everything suggests it’s going to be a big game at Elland Road and if this gesture helps a few more of our fans get there who otherwise would not have been able to, then so much the better.”
Leeds’ £39 adult ticket is one of the most expensive in the Championship.
Away tickets are capped at £30 in the Premier League and the Leeds fans paid just £20 when they visited The Hawthorns earlier this season.
Technical director Luke Dowling approached the squad with the idea to pay for one away trip this season, before the players picked the Leeds game.
Fans purchasing a Leeds ticket online or from the Ticket Office will have the option to add a free travel ticket to their basket when purchasing together.
Fans who have already purchased a travel ticket will need to contact the Ticket Office by visiting in person or calling 0121-227-2227 to claim a refund.
And fans who have already purchased a match ticket and wish to add a free travel ticket should also get in touch with the ticket office.
