Jacob Murphy chose Albion over Middlesbrough after being convinced by Darren Moore’s philosophy on the game.

The 23-year-old was offered a chance to go on loan to Tony Pulis’s Boro side, who come to The Hawthorns tomorrow, but decided to join the Baggies instead.

He said he wanted to join a team that had been ‘scoring goals for fun’ and was keen for a reunion with Dwight Gayle, also on loan from Newcastle.

“I just had a feeling that this would be the place for me to be,” said Murphy. “I had a really good conversation with the manager, he told me his thoughts and the philosophy that he’s got going here, and it’s the thing that I really bought into.

“It’s why I wanted to join. This was the place for me to come for my development.

“It’s a massive club and you can see that by how well they’re doing in the league so far.

“They’re scoring goals for fun and for a winger this is an amazing team to be able to be part of.

“I’m looking forward to helping the team score more goals. As a forward player you want to score goals and get assists, you want to be part of that.

“I’m excited, and hopefully I can chip in with a lot of goals.

“I’m very attacking. The formation is one I like to play so I’m looking forward to getting out there and showing people what I can do.”

Murphy spent last season with Gayle at Newcastle, and he believes the pair could strike up a fruitful partnership.

“In the Championship he is devastating,” Murphy said of Gayle. “He frightens the life out of all defenders. We linked up quite well when we were back at Newcastle.

“We’ve been in contact and I’m looking forward to partnering up again with him.

“Knowing that he was here helped me. It’s a familiar face around and someone as class as Dwight being around is only going to help with my development.”

Murphy wasn’t the only winger to sign for Albion on deadline day, when Jefferson Montero also joined on loan from Swansea.

“There’s an opportunity to help the team achieve promotion to the Premier League,” said Montero.

“There is a good manager, good players, a good group of staff and the support is very good.

“I’ve played at The Hawthorns before in the Premier League, and there was very good support.

“I’ve spoken to the manager, and my first impression is that he’s opened the door for me here, and he seems nice and very good.

“I’ve not played too much at Swansea because I had an injury but I feel 100 per cent now.

“I am quick, I like to try and beat players in a one-v-one or a one-v-two. I like to create chances for the strikers, and I like to attack the goal.

“There is only one objective, and that is promotion to the Premier League for next season.”
