Mears and Hoolahan are both on short-term contracts that run out in the middle of January, but the Baggies are yet to decide whether to offer them new deals until the end of the season.

However, Darren Moore is planning to speak to chief executive Mark Jenkins and technical director Luke Dowling ahead of the Rotherham game about the two players.

A final decision may not be made until a later date however, because it could depend on Albion’s activity in the January transfer window.

“We’ve not made a decision on any of the players yet because of the number of games,” said Moore.

“I’m just focused on keeping the team efficient.

“It is something that will come about, but my head is focused on this weekend’s game.

“Next week will present an ideal time to look at things like that before we get into the Christmas programme. Once we get into that we’ll go full steam ahead because it’s five games in 15 days.”

Mears, 35, and Hoolahan, 36, were both signed on short-term deals after the summer transfer window shut.

Mears has made nine appearances including six starts for the Baggies, but Hoolahan is yet to start in the Championship this season.

Moore insists there is no immediate rush to make a decision because their contracts do not run out until the middle of next month.

“It’s the second week in January, so it’s not the first of January and they’ve got to go,” he said.

“It might be mid-January. It’s not immediate.

“We don’t get to Blackburn Rovers and think goodness me we need to make a decision. We have until after the FA Cup to make a decision.”

Both players have featured for the under-23s this season in order to keep their match fitness up.

“The reason why they’re playing the 23s is because the players need that contact,” said Moore.

“Those over-age players need to be ready if I call upon them in the next few weeks when we’ve got games bunched up.

“They need to be at a level, I don’t want them coming in cold.

“Wes Hoolahan, Tyrone (Mears), Conor (Townsend), all those fringe players need that level, so they’re ready to step in.

“You’ve got to train them over and above to replicate a game.”
