James Morrison: I've got more to give
James Morrison insists there is still more to come from him after the midfielder started his fourth game in a row.
Morrison has been one of the catalysts of Albion’s recent form, helping them win back-to-back fixtures against Leeds United and Ipswich Town.
His return to the side has been an emotional one, following a lengthy lay-off with an Achilles problem the 32-year-old feared would force him into retirement.
“It’s nice to be back with the lads, and coming off the pitch winning,” said Morrison. “I do feel like there’s still more to come.
“I’m working on that and trying my best. I’m really enjoying being back involved and fighting to get back to the Premier League.
“There’s stuff to my game that’s coming back slowly. I’m not getting frustrated because I know it’ll come.
“Fitness-wise I feel great. I’m lasting the 90 minutes with plenty of energy left.”
Albion have struggled after international breaks this season, drawing away at Birmingham City, where they were outplayed, and losing away at Wigan.
But they put that particular hoodoo to bed at Portman Road on Friday night with a comfortable 2-1 win over basement boys Ipswich.
“After the international break you always want to start well and put a marker down for the rest of the teams watching,” said Morrison. “I thought it was a hard-fought victory and that’s pleasing.
“It’s always nice to win. The Leeds game set us up and that togetherness brought us through in the last five minutes (at Ipswich).
“In recent times we’ve conceded there but we were solid as a rock (after Ipswich scored).
“It was a scrappy game but we were in control and we could have had three or four on another occasion.”
Albion were coasting at 2-0 before a mistake from Manchester City loanee Tosin Adarabioyo let Kayden Jackson in five minutes from time.
“Tosin will learn more from that than any other game,” said Morrison. “He was devastated at the end but it happens in football.”
That game kick-started a period of four games in 15 days with a long trip to Swansea tomorrow before two home games in the same week against Brentford and Villa.
“It’s a tough period now,” admitted Morrison. “We’ve got another tough game (coming up) in Swansea (on Wednesday).
“We’ll fight again and keep plugging away to get up the table.
“It’s another long journey, but we’ll do what we’ve got to do and prepare again.”
Albion are currently fourth in the Championship table, three points off the automatic promotion spots.
But Morrison, who has been promoted out of this league twice with the Baggies, isn’t concerning himself with how the table looks just yet.
“I don’t think we need to start looking at the table at the moment,” said Morrison. “We’ll just keep ticking off the games.
“We’ll start looking in March, April when it’s the business end (of the season).”
