Demarai Gray’s injury could impact Harvey Barnes at West Brom

Albion are sweating on news of Demarai Gray’s injury – because it could have an impact on Leicester’s decision to recall Harvey Barnes in January.

Gray damaged his ankle ligaments when his studs caught in the Molineux turf during the Foxes’ Carabao Cup match against Wolves on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old, who plays left-wing for Leicester, had to be given oxygen as he was stretchered off the pitch.

He is having a scan on his ankle this week and while there is yet no time-frame for his return, he did deliver a re-assuring update on Instagram.

“Injuries (sic) not as bad as first thought, hopefully I’ll be back in no time!” he posted.

Barnes arrived at The Hawthorns as a left winger, although he’s flourished since being moved inside to a No.10 role.

Leicester recalled Barnes in January last season from Barnsley while on a season-long loan, but the youngster only played eight Premier League minutes in the second half of the season.

Claude Puel still has Marc Albrighton and Rachid Ghezzal on the wing, while Fousseni Diabate can also play there.

It’s believed an injury to James Maddison, who has impressed for Leicester since signing from Norwich in the summer, would be more likely to encourage the Foxes to recall Barnes.
