Artist in residence Tai Schierenberg reunited with West Brom and the fans

Tai-Shan Schierenberg returned to The Hawthorns last weekend for the first time since his emotional reaction to Jake Livermore’s winner against Spurs was caught on camera.

The portrait artist, whose journey from football sceptic to Baggies fan was captured in a Channel 4 documentary which aired over the summer, sat in the corner of the Smethwick End and Halford’s Lane for Albion’s 2-1 win over Stoke.

After turning down an invite into the directors’ box, he mingled with fans pitch-side and was reunited with Richard Hodgetts, the supporter he painted for his series.

“That late goal at Middlesbrough completely ruined last weekend but a week later the emotions are entirely the opposite,” said Schierenberg.

“I can’t thank the supporters enough for the way they have welcomed me and it is thrilling to have received such a positive response to my paintings.

“When I thought about the film, there was not a great deal of time spent on the paintings themselves so I’m delighted the club were able to put on the exhibition.

“To then see the team play so well made it the perfect return.”
