Darren Moore: West Brom won't make deadline day signings for the sake of it

Darren Moore says nobody will be brought into Albion for the sake of it on deadline day - despite the club receiving a cash injection from Nacer Chadli's exit.

The Baggies sold Chadli to Monaco yesterday for £10m, and Moore admitted that bolstered his chances of doing business before today's 5pm deadline in the loan window.

But with time running out to make signings, he is not desperate to replace Chadli, having been pleased with how Harvey Barnes has played in the number 10 role.

"It does give me something to play with," said Moore. "The club will only sign if the right players become available in these last minutes of the loan window.

"Other than that we carry on. With Nacer out of the team we’ve had young Harvey Barnes doing really well.

"James Morrison has filled in so we’ve had players in the position that Nacer would be. We’ve scored goals in there and long may it continue.

"It’s easy to spend money. It’s about spending money on the right player. No one will be brought in for the sake of it.

"Every player that comes in is purposefully brought in to do a job and to improve us as a football club.

"If those players don’t become available there’s no way the club will venture down that road. We’ll continue to work and see it where it takes us when 5pm comes."

Albion have approached Blackburn Rovers with an offer for Bradley Dack, but have been told he's not for sale.

Moore has also been interested in Romaine Sawyers this summer, but Brentford's stance has hardened since selling Ryan Woods to Stoke City, Albion's opponents tomorrow.

When he was asked if he would be happy with his squad should no more faces come in today, Moore said: "If you look at the way the squads performed and the adaptability of the players in different formations, the versatility of the squad has been brilliant.

"That only comes from hard work and the players doing what they've been asked of.

"If the right player becomes available in the last few hours of this window, and we feel it will move us forward, we'll try and make that happen.

"But we won't just spend money for the sake of it. They will have to add to the squad and the club. We wait and see. We're working and looking at what's out there.

"I've been very happy with the return of the squad so far, we've got a real goal threat and that's what we wanted."

The Baggies have cut their losses on record signing Chadli, who was signed two years ago for £18m but left for £10m yesterday.

He only made 32 appearances for the Baggies, and spent the majority of last season injured.

"It’s a good deal for everybody," said Moore. "We wish him really well.

"On the back of his World Cup campaign he felt like the deal was right for him. He’s taken the opportunity."
