Superfan William Bayley was left stunned when two of the first team stars turned up at his home in a surprise visit.

Midfielder Chris Brunt and striker Dwight Gayle took time out of their hectic training schedule to visit William, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was just two years old.

After undergoing immediate emergency surgery, the brave youngster started on chemotherapy to clear any cancerous cells left behind.

He has been undergoing intermittent chemotherapy in the five years since and his family are now hopeful that he is heading towards the end of treatment.

But the life-long Baggies fanatic was left smiling ear to ear after getting a game of football in with his heroes in his back garden.

The players, who signed keepsakes for the youngster, including a football, also surprised William with a personalised 2018/19 home shirt and tickets to the next Hawthorns fixture against Stoke City next weekend.

After handing over the tckets, Gayle said with a smile: “Your dad won’t have to pay for the tickets so he will be able to pay for the burgers this time.” Brunt then shared a joke about hopefully being able to

repeat something like the 7-1 victory Albion sealed over QPR at the Hawthorns last Saturday.

The player quipped: “You were good for us last weekend so hopefully it will be the same again for us this weekend. I would not be expecting seven goals again though.”

The visit came as part of the ‘Albion Stars’ programme, which was launched earlier this year.

A West Bromwich Albion spokesperson said: “Everyone at West Bromwich Albion is hopeful that William and his family

are now heading towards the end of treatment.

“We wish them all the best during this time – and for the future. We look forward to seeing him at The Hawthorns next weekend.”
