Gera, who played alongside Albion’s head coach at The Hawthorns, has called time on his 22-year playing career at the age of 39.

And the Hungarian international, who scored 29 goals in 171 appearances across two spells at the Baggies, has been invited back to the Black Country by Moore.

“I want to congratulate him and his family for a fantastic career and I certainly hope this season we can get him back to The Hawthorns so we can all give him a proper send off,” said Albion’s head coach.

“Nobody doubts his exceptional ability and inside what a fabulous and funny man who added to the dressing room.

“Somebody that would buy into what the team would be. He was silent but deadly in terms of his character, that’s why he was loved by the dressing room - and he was a real family man too.

“As a footballer, he was an exceptional intelligent player, who scored some fantastic goals. He rose like a salmon at the back post and outjumped most full-backs.

“A fantastic player who deserves all the accolades he’s getting because he’s had a tremendous career.”

Gera won 97 caps for Hungary and scored 26 goals for his country.
