West Brom set to miss out on Bobby Reid as Cardiff City swoop in

Albion are set to miss out on summer target Bobby Reid as the Bristol City forward closes in on a move to Cardiff City instead.

Bobby Reid, right, in action for Bristol City.

The Baggies had targeted the versatile 25-year-old, who scored 19 Championship goals for the Robins last season, to bolster their front-line options.

But the lure of Premier League football has won the race for his signature, and Reid will be making the short trip across the Severn Bridge instead.

Albion opened talks with City just over a fortnight ago and were willing to pay £7m for Reid but negotiations dragged as the Robins stuck firmly to their £10m valuation.

Cardiff then swooped in and met that valuation, agreeing a fee of £9m up front with an extra £1m in add-ons.

Derby County were also interested but Reid was keen to make the step up to the Premier League.

He is now due to have a medical and undergo personal talks in Wales ahead of completing his switch.

It is a blow for Albion, who have already lost four players this summer but are yet to sign any replacements.

Jonny Evans joined Leicester and the club released Boaz Myhill, Gareth McAuley, and Claudio Yacob.

The Baggies are interested in Brentford midfielders Romaine Sawyers and Ryan Woods.
