In a stunning revelation that has rocked Darren Moore’s first days back with the players, the two club stalwarts have failed to turn up for the opening week of pre-season.

It’s believed both are unhappy with the board’s attempts to keep them at all costs this summer.

Foster’s former club Watford are reportedly interested in offering him a route back to the Premier League, while Burnley and West Ham are keen on Dawson.

Both players have been at the Baggies for many years, with Foster joining in 2011 and Dawson signing from Rochdale a year earlier.

It's understood the matter will be dealt with internally, with both players expected to receive a fine.

Foster’s decision to stay at home is even more surprising considering he pledged his future to the club just two months ago.

“I’ll be here,” said the long-serving keeper, in April. “I’ve got no interest in trying to move clubs.

“I’m very settled and I’m sure there are quite a few others who would love to stay and help us get back to the Premier League.”

However, it’s believed several senior players have also been trying to seek clarity over the direction the club is heading.

Four players have already left this summer but none have been signed and technical consultant Giuliano Terraneo has been removed from transfer negotiations.

It leaves Moore with a skeleton squad in Portugal and uncertainty clouding the futures of many of his senior players.

Jonny Evans, Gareth McAuley, Claudio Yacob and Boaz Myhill have already left, while Ahmed Hegazi and Nacer Chadli are currently at the World Cup.

Jake Livermore, Oliver Burke, James McClean and James Morrison are not in Portugal having been given an extra week off.

However, Stoke are hoping to seal a deal for McClean this week, while Hegazi, Chadli and Salomon Rondon all have release clauses in their contracts. There is also interest in Jay Rodriguez and Matt Phillips.

It will be the second time in a matter of months that high-profile senior players have been disciplined by the club.

In February, four senior players were fined for breaking curfew in Barcelona after they allegedly stole a taxi during a mid-season break.
