Mark Jenkins: Darren Moore will have the final say on West Brom transfers

Head coach Darren Moore will have the final say over new players and according to chief executive Mark Jenkins, Albion will have a 'very strong budget' to play with this summer.

Speaking at Moore's unveiling at The Hawthorns, Jenkins said the caretaker had been given the reins full-time because he encapsulates all of the 'fundamentals' of the club.

He criticised his predecessors for misspending, but played down the suggestion of a financial crisis and stated the club didn't need to sell any players this summer to balance the books.

And he confirmed that Moore would be a key part in the recruitment process.

"There will be no players brought in without Darren saying yes to that," confirmed Jenkins. "That's always been the case when I've been chief executive here.

"There's no point bringing players in that Darren doesn't want because they simply won't play. It's just pointless.

"It will obviously be a very strong budget because we've just been relegated from the Premier League but as I've always said, it's not how much you spend, it's what you spend it on.

"Clearly the last 12 months have demonstrated that, because the club has misspent in areas.

"We need to work harder on our recruitment, and on many areas of the business to take the club forward."

When Jenkins returned to the club, he was 'shocked' the Baggies had entered an overdraft for the first time in 10 years.

But he reassured supporters that the club was still in a financially strong position and would not be forced to sell their best players this summer.

"The reason why I painted that picture, when I left the club it was in an extremely good state," he said.

"There was £40million worth of surplus funds in the bank. That has gone.

"However, the club is still financially very solvent and doesn’t need to sell any players. It’s just that any excess has gone.

"This club does not have to sell any players to balance the books."

Moore was given the job full-time after his remarkable stint as caretaker boss, and he beat off Brentford's Dean Smith, who was the other leading candidate.

"Darren was interviewed along with several other people but he also had a period of time where he had six matches and did extremely well," said Jenkins.

"More than anything, Darren encapsulates what we want at this club, pride, loyalty, honest, hard work and more than anything, he loves the Albion.

"That's what we want from all our staff, not just the head coach, the players and every member of this organisation.

"After eight years in the Premier League we need to get back to those principles that are fundamentals of the club.

"If we have everybody working together - as Darren has so eloquently said a number of times - we will go forward.

"Darren is the right man for the job."
