The Baggies need their relegation rivals to draw in South Wales to keep Albion’s slim survival hopes alive heading into a nerve-jangling final day of the season.

But if either hosts Swansea or a rejuvenated Saints side take all three points, the Baggies will be relegated to the Championship.

Albion have given themselves an outside chance of staying up with a remarkable five-game unbeaten run under caretaker boss Darren Moore.

Nyom has played his part in the run, having been reinstated to right-back under Moore, but he won’t be tuning in tonight.

“No I will not watch the game because I would get too nervous,” he said. “I will just wait for the result.”

Even if Swansea and Southampton draw, Albion still need three results to go their way on the final day of the season and a five-goal swing of goal difference between them and Saints.

“It is very frustrating because I think we have good players,” admitted Nyom “But this year we haven’t played as well as we should do. But it’s football. We still have a chance to fight and stay up.

“A few games ago we needed positivity and the manager, Darren Moore, brought that positivity – a fresh air. He brought his mentality to good players and now everything is working.

“Mathematically we still had a chance when Mooro got the job. We are professionals and we had to keep fighting – and we are fighting.

“We were sad at the thought of going down. But now at least we have shown the character of the team – we have shown we are good players.

“Unfortunately we have started winning at the end of the season.”

Nyom was involved in an altercation with Spurs wing-back Danny Rose on Saturday and had to be calmed down by stand-in skipper Chris Brunt after picking up a yellow card.

“It was nothing, just tension,” said Nyom. “It was an important game for us and a little bit for them too. When there is tension on the pitch sometimes a small fight comes out of nothing.”

Albion have beaten Manchester United, Newcastle, and Tottenham under Moore, as well as picking up draws against Liverpool and Swansea.

There are growing calls to give him the job permanently, but when Nyom was asked if the caretaker should be installed full-time he said: “I don’t know. You will have to talk with the directors because I’m just a player.”

When he was asked if the Baggies would have stayed up had Moore been installed as caretaker boss earlier, the full-back said: “Perhaps. We will never know. It’s football, but he brought fresh air and positivity.”
