West Brom 2 Liverpool 2 - Player ratings

Albion roared back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Liverpool at The Hawthorns on Saturday. Here, we rate the players.

Published
Jake Livermore. (AMA)

BEN FOSTER

Made a brilliant point-blank save in the first half to deny Ings, and plenty of keepers have been sat down one-on-one by Salah this season. Apart from that, he was rarely tested by Liverpool’s frontline. 6/10

ALLAN NYOM

His shot from the halfway line was memorable, but considering he kept Sadio Mane quiet and supported Phillips on the wing, it was a successful day all round. 6/10

CRAIG DAWSON

Kept the back four knitted together when his partner was having an off-day and was a menace from corners. For the second week running he was fortunate not to concede a penalty. 7/10

AHMED HEGAZI

A reckless performance from the Egyptian, who drifted out of position too regularly and made a couple of errors. Lost his temper in his battle with Ings, and could face retrospective action after aiming a jab at the Liverpool man’s ribs when he was on the floor. 4/10

KIERAN GIBBS

Had the tricky task of keeping Salah quiet but the 41-goal wonder didn’t get behind him on too many occasions and only scored when Albion went to a back three. 6/10

MATT PHILLIPS - Albion man of the match

This was the Phillips of old – a dazzling performance we got used to seeing last season. Not only did he have Moreno on toast, but he was also causing Klavan all sorts of problems. There were so many fleet-footed piercing runs to the byline that it's remarkable he didn't set up at least one goal. Back to his best. 8/10

CHRIS BRUNT

His set-pieces continue to be Albion’s greatest threat and it was two of his deliveries that led to the two goals. His partnership in midfield with Livermore continues to flourish and his leadership skills are standing out. 7/10

JAKE LIVERMORE

Grew into the game after a shaky start which included a couple of misplaced passes. Set up a good chance for McClean and then scored Albion’s first. Under Moore, he’s having more of an impact further up the pitch. 8/10

JAMES MCCLEAN

Nearly scored with a first time volley in the first half that flashed across the goal and was perhaps a tad unlucky to be taken off. 6/10

JAY RODRIGUEZ

Didn’t play as prominent a role as recent games but kept battling throughout. 6/10

SALOMON RONDON

Reached double figures for the season with a late equaliser that was well taken. Another one who kept going, and his post-match walk to all four corners of the stadium suggests it really matters. 7/10

Substitutes

JONNY EVANS (MCCLEAN 71)

Booed by both sets of fans. Albion conceded moments after he came on. 5/10

OLIVER BURKE (GIBBS 76)

Injected some pace and penetration to the Baggies. 6/10

HAL ROBSON-KANU (RODRIGUEZ 89)

Not enough time to make an impact. 5/10

Unused: Myhill, Yacob, Field, Krychowiak.
