Former West Brom striker Lee Hughes signed for Halesowen Town to get scoring buzz back
Former Albion striker Lee Hughes has agreed to help Halesowen Town’s survival fight because he still gets the same buzz from scoring goals at the age of 41.
Hughes has left his role as joint-manager of Midland Premier League side Worcester City and jumped up two divisions to the Evo-Stik Premier with the Yeltz.
Although he still holds a long-term desire to get into coaching and is currently in the process of getting his Uefa B licence, he wants to keep playing as long as he can.
And he’s got no doubts he’ll be able to cope with the Evo-Stik Premier.
“I played in Conference North last season and scored 18 goals, I know I can score goals at this level,” he told the Express & Star.
“I’ve been told by a lot of ex-professionals to play as long as I can, and I hope to get Halesowen out of their relegation trouble.
“At the moment I just want to concentrate on my football. I want to play next season, there’s no reason why I can’t, and I’ll finish my badges in the next year or two.
“I still get the same buzz to be fair, I still really enjoy scoring, you can’t get that feeling out of you. I still celebrate like I’m scoring in a cup final. As long as I’ve got that enthusiasm and desire, I’ll continue.”
Hughes has already scored 15 goals in 23 appearances for Worcester CIty in the Midland Premier League this season.
Halesowen are second-bottom of the Evo-Stik Premier with 11 games left this season.
