Werder Bremen want to cut short Yuning Zhang's loan from West Brom
Werder Bremen want to cut short Yuning Zhang’s two-year loan from Albion in the summer because he’s been unable to break into their team.
The Baggies bought the 21-year-old Chinese striker from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem last summer for commercial reasons and immediatley loaned him out to German club Bremen for two years.
However, Zhang has not been able to break into the Bundesliga team and because of German employment rules, he cannot play for their under-23 side.
Bremen Sporting Director Frank Baumann told the German press: “We're trying to find a solution that Yuning plays in the U23s, so if that does not work, we'll have to deal with other options.
"Yuning has not played for a whole year, so another season would make little sense."
Bremen agreed to the two-year loan last summer so Albion would have to ratify any decision to cut short the temporary agreement.
Zhang signed a three-year contract with the Baggies but cannot play in either the Premier League or the Championship because he is unable to get a work permit while China are ranked outside the top 50 countries in the world. They are currently ranked 68.
Albion are expected to accept Bremen’s request to cut short Zhang’s loan before attempting to find another club in Europe for him to join on loan this summer.
