So it’s come to this. Six games, realistically, in which to retain our Premier League status.

With the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Monday night coupled with many of our closest relegation rivals picking up surprising, yet much-needed victories we find ourselves seven points from safety.

With games against some of our rivals to come, it’s now or never for Albion.

Some pundits and supporters have already written us off but mathematically there is still hope for us.

Along with our dire recent results, the last thing we needed was any upheaval.

That’s why the sacking of John Williams and Martin Goodman this week was met with surprise if not disappointment.

Its been claimed that the futures of Alan Pardew and Nick Hammond are safe but this latest announcement does nothing to ease the pressure surrounding the football club.

A lot of fans have been expressing their frustration at our current predicament especially with the assertions that if we had kept Tony Pulis we’d have a better chance of staying up.

Personally, I’m not in total agreement with that opinion. However, the appointment of Pardew was meant to improve us but all we’ve simply done is gone backwards.

If the result on Monday night was expected, the sacking of the chairman and the chief executive was not.

What was also quite unexpected was the chairman saying it came as a surprise.

I can only presume that the fact that we are seven points from safety and having made virtually all the decisions that have gone badly wrong, including appointing a manager with completely the opposite opinion and style of play to the one he had just sacked, with no room to change the personnel, is obviously someone else’s fault.

Although I’m not a fan of Alan Pardew, he is in an almost impossible position of trying to play the only way he knows with a very defensive-minded squad of players and although sacking the two administrators won’t win us any matches it’s a refreshing change to see the actual people to blame for the shambles we are in, pay the price.

I would like think that Nick Hammond and Richard Garlick are soon to follow. We now need to get back to where we were before the Southampton game, which has knocked our confidence. And we all need to be pulling in the same direction and save the finger-pointing until after the season as ended.

So the chairman has gone. I wrote to him and emailed him several times without so much as a reply. Fan appreciation not high on his list then.

Should we worry that the board room is lighter? Not at all.

We have more pressing matters on the pitch to address.

Obviously Albion’s next chairman will be a delicate matter but at the moment its all about the footie.

Owner Guochuan Lai penned a large cheque to Jeremy Peace and has spent very little since.

The dribs and drabs have come from Premier League prize money, so maybe some of the blame has to be pointed at an overseas owner.

The players won't care really who sits in the warm seat come Saturday, they don’t care whose name appears on headed paper, if they have any pride they will give blood sweat and tears for Alan Pardew and the club each game. It’s now about passion, pride and gritted teeth.
