The former Walsall front-man has been a long-term target for the Baggies, who reignited their interest in him earlier this window.

Albion boss Alan Pardew is keen to sign a striker before the window shuts this week and Deeney is believed to be open to a move away from Vicarage Road.

"We're going to try and bring a striker in before Wednesday and that will hopefully lift us," said Pardew, after Saturday's 3-2 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Albion have offered £16m for Deeney but Watford have rejected it.

Albion's wage bill is nearly at its limit, so they may need to off-load players before signing Deeney.

Arsenal are interested in centre-back Jonny Evans, and Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on Jake Livermore.

Walsall are entitled to 20 per cent of any profit Watford make on Deeney after selling him to them for £500,000 in 2010.
