Stoke 3 West Brom 1 - Albion's player ratings

Despite dominating for large parts, Albion lost 3-1 to Stoke City on Saturday. Here, we rate the players.

Published
Albion players look dejected at full-time.

BEN FOSTER

Pulled off a great save to deny Shawcross when the score was 2-1 in order to keep Albion in the game, but if you were being picky, he made it slightly too easy for Choupo-Moting to get round him. 6/10

ALLAN NYOM

Allowed Joe Allen to get in front of him and sweep home the first goal, and wasted far too many crosses in attacking positions. 4/10

AHMED HEGAZI

Was caught out of position for Choupo-Moting's goal, allowing Allen to cut open the defence with one simple pass. 5/10

JONNY EVANS

Got sucked too high up the pitch by Crouch for Stoke's second but nearly scored a header in the second half and was composed on the ball. 5/10

KIERAN GIBBS

Kept Shaqiri relatively quiet, and not much he could have done about the goals, although the first two came down his wing. 6/10

JAKE LIVERMORE

Manufactured a couple of shots, but he's not a right winger. Was played out of position and struggled to create much of note. Played it backwards when he was through on goal. 5/10

CHRIS BRUNT - Albion's man of the match

Played simple incisive passes forward to the attackers, and also clipped the ball in behind for Rondon’s goal. Albion play better with him in the team. Not all of his corners were up to his usual high standards, but a few of them caused problems near the end. Did well in central midfield but also filled in at left-back. 7/10

GARETH BARRY

Tidy in possession and moved Albion forwards, but he was too easily outmuscled by the diminutive Allen in the build-up to Stoke's second. 6/10

JAMES MCCLEAN

Plenty of willing, but lacked quality in the final third. Put in one decent cross with his right foot before being hooked at half-time. 5/10

HAL ROBSON-KANU

Another hard worker who gives everything, but produces little. Lost the ball a shocking seven times, and threw himself to ground in the box far too easily on a couple of occasions. Started up front before going wide, but rarely threatened. 3/10

SALOMON RONDON

His miss in the first half was shocking, but he took his goal well after the break and that spurred him on to a more promising second half performance. But despite the goal, there are still question marks over his finishing. 6/10

Substitutes

Nacer Chadli (For McClean 45)

Only lasted 15 minutes before limping off. 5/10

Jay Rodriguez (For Chadli 61)

Might have won a penalty but just like Arsenal, was wrongly penalised for not going down. 6/10

Oliver Burke (For Gibbs 80)

Fizzed in a cross that was nearly turned in by Tom Edwards. 6/10
