Jonny Evans: Don't just blame the West Brom strikers

Baggies skipper Jonny Evans says the whole team should be scrutinised for the lack of goals – and not just the forwards.

Albion have failed to find the net in Alan Pardew’s first two games in charge and haven’t scored in five of their last eight matches.

Salomon Rondon, Jay Rodriguez and Hal Robson-Kanu each have two league goals so far.

But Evans says struggles up top should not just be blamed on the attacking players.

“We attack and defend as a team,” said the skipper. “Our service to the strikers has got to be good too.

“We ask them to do a lot of defending from the front, it’s a real team game.

“It’s up to us to supply the ammunition for them so it swings both ways.”

Albion could be in the bottom three by the time they face Liverpool tomorrow, should Crystal Palace beat Watford tonight.

And Evans admitted it was a daunting week ahead.

“There’s still a long way to go but we’ve got two tough games coming up with Liverpool and (Manchester) United,” he said.

“Those two games are going to be very difficult to pick up points in.”

Albion’s Birmingham Senior Cup tie against Leamington, which was planned for tonight, has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
