The Baggies have scored just 12 goals in 16 league games this season, and haven't found the net in either of Pardew's two games in charge.

Only two teams have scored fewer goals in the top tier, and Albion's new boss is determined to improve the team's threat in the final third on the training pitch.

But if results and performances don't pick up, he will search for solutions outside of the club.

"January is not far away, and we're going to have to look at that if we can't increase our goalscoring ratio," he said. "It's not great and we need to improve it.

"We have a difficult Christmas programme but a programme where we could get a couple of wins, wins that will make it look a lot different."

Pardew hasn't spoken to the board about how much cash will be made available in January, but Albion need to sell to buy if they want to change the squad in the New Year because the Baggies are at the limit of their wage structure.

Jonny Evans could fetch more than £30million with plenty of clubs interested and Grzegorz Krychowiak, who Albion are paying £108,000 a week, would free up wages if he returned to parent club Paris Saint-Germain.

The Polish midfielder hasn't played a minute of football under Pardew but he is on a season-long loan so any return deal would need to be brokered with the French club.

But Albion have five games before the window opens and Pardew's initial plan is to release the untapped potential inside the players he's got.

"I want to give them an idea on how to improve their offensive display," he said, after Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Swansea. "Jay (Rodriguez's) best work was not near the goal enough.

"He linked the play well and didn't have a moment. He had that run in the first half where he couldn't get his shot off but he did some really good things.

"Salomon (Rondon) worked as hard as he always does but we've got to create some more moments and give them ideas of how to lift their game.

"I thought we had some outstanding performances. Jonny (Evans) and Ahmed (Hegazi) were great, Jake Livermore was great.

"It's just in those offensive areas. The endeavour is definitely there.

"But to have a great offensive display is pulling people around, creating moments, making sliding runs, getting shots off at goal. In that area we struggled."
