Player ratings - Huddersfield 1 West Brom 0

Albion slumped to a 1-0 defeat away at ten-man Huddersfield Town yesterday. Here, we rate the players.

Published
Hal Robson-Kanu started brightly. (AMA)

Ben Foster

Absolutely nothing he could do about the stunning goal, and he wasn’t called into action much apart from that. 6/10

Allan Nyom

Picked up an early booking and seemed to struggle all game with the brilliant Van La Parra. Huddersfield had a lot of joy down his wing. 4/10

Gareth McAuley

Guilty of either passing the ball back to Foster or clipping it forward to the front two when the midfield were showing. Because of that, had the lowest pass success rate in the team. 4/10

Ahmed Hegazi - Albion man of the match

The big Egyptian mopped up a lot at the back and also got Schindler a second yellow with his exciting Beckenbauer-style surge forward. Set up a chance for Krychowiak with a knock down early on. Continues to be one of the few positives of this season. 6/10

Jonny Evans

Solid defensively but when he gave away possession with an inadvertent toe-poke with no-one around him, it summed up Albion’s performance. 5/10

Kieran Gibbs

Nearly gave away a penalty, although Van La Parra went down awfully easily. Still hasn’t won a game in Albion colours. 5/10

Jake Livermore

A better all-round performance from the midfielder, but should have closed Van La Parra down quicker before the goal. Almost dared him to shoot. 6/10

Gareth Barry

Grew more and more visibly frustrated as the game wore on, but needs a number 10 in front of him or wingers out wide to pass to. 6/10

Grzegorz Krychowiak

Mis-kicked a good chance three minutes in from a Hegazi knock down and struggled to create much going forward. Had a 95 per cent pass success rate, the highest in the team but they were too often backwards or sideways. 5/10

Jay Rodriguez

Made two important defensive headers but struggled at the end where it counts. Had a shot blocked in the first half, and was wayward in the second. 5/10

Hal Robson-Kanu

Ruffed up Christopher Schindler, Huddersfield’s best defender this season, getting him booked. Slipped Rodriguez through and buzzed around with purpose, if not quality. 6/10

Substitutes

James McClean (Krychowiak 59)

Tested Lossl in injury time with a firm downwards header. Nearly lost his cool, but at least he was trying. 6/10

Salomon Rondon (Robson-Kanu 59)

Glanced a header inches wide. 5/10

Matt Phillips (McAuley 59)

Had a late shot well saved by Lossl. 5/10

Unused: Myhill, Yacob, Brunt, Chadli.
