The 17-year-old from Northern Ireland had to have an operation after sustaining the serious injury in action for the under-18s on Saturday.

But the former Linfield player, who was signed in July 2016, has featured regular for James Shan's under-23s this season.

“I’ve spoken to Jack regularly," said Shan, ahead of tonight's Premier League 2 match with Reading. "I know he’s had his operation and that seems to have been a success, but we’re obviously gutted for the lad.

“He’s a real professional in terms of everything he does and he’s stepped up to the U23s a lot this season and done really well for us.

“Jack was the first on the WhatsApp group to wish the team good luck, which tells you a lot about his character.

"We hope he has a speedy recovery and he’ll get all the support he needs from the staff here.”

The under-23s lost 2-0 to Reading at Aggborough tonight, leaving them bottom of Premier League 2 Division Two.

Oliver Burke played the first half after returning to full training last Thursday, and Sam Field played for 74 minutes.

Tahvon Campbell also featured following his return from a loan spell at Solihull Moors.
