The 17-year-old full-back received a second yellow card in stoppage time of Exeter’s 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town in League Two.

Grecians boss Paul Tisdale agreed with the decision and told Wilson to learn his lesson from the mistake, but called for referees to be more consistent.

“Well done to the referee for giving a yellow card,” Tisdale told DevonLive. “I’m really sorry for Kane, he’s got to learn from that, but for goodness sake would referees please do that in the first minute as well as the last minute.”

Tisdale added: “The irony is I'd been asking the fourth official in the second-half, 'would you book someone for kicking the ball away and standing in the way of it?'

“Because every week we get the same, every week they say it’s just part of the game. It’s nonsense, the ball should be in play, moving, and the referee has got to be stronger.”
