It all started so well. Finally a transfer window to be excited about, quality players brought in, competition for places meaning we’d kick on, and weak links slowly being let go. However the one aspect that we hoped would also evolve hasn’t.

Tony Pulis did a fantastic job when he started, one I’m not sure many others would have been able to do.

However his biggest asset is also his biggest hindrance, as a firefighter he’s outstanding, taking average players and installing the belief and methods – regardless of how they are viewed – to get results.

Against the odds there are few better, but when presented with better players he simply reverts to type and is slowly dragging them down to his level.

Players like Barry and Krychowiak don’t need three or four players within five yards every time they get the ball, they’re better than that, as are players like Gibbs and Evans at defending.

Trust your players to do a job and you’d be surprised at how well they actually can play.

The unfortunate thing is that the longer this is allowed to go on the more “Wenger-esque” this situation becomes. I think a thank you and a good-bye would suit both parties.

I’m honestly surprised that, as I write this, Pulis is still in his post. That Southampton performance was the final straw for me. Putting quality to one side, you could never question the players commitment and effort under Pulis, they always seemed to be at the very least ‘playing’ for their head coach.

But there was none of that Saturday when the players looking utterly dejected and completely fed up trying to make this system Pulis is so stubbornly insistent on implementing, work somehow.

The unrest within the club has reached boiling point and I can’t see any other way forward than to get rid of Pulis and give someone else the opportunity of trying to get the best out of this very talented squad.

It’s a shame it’s come to this as he did unbelievably well in keeping us up and then consolidating our place in the Premier League. But it’s clearly evident from these first nine games that we are now going backwards. Time for a change.

It seems as though even the optimistic fans are beginning to turn their backs on Tony Pulis.

For some, the defeat at Southampton at the weekend was the final straw.

It wasn’t just another three points lost it was clearly more than that. The performance was just simply not good enough.

Once again, a lack of attacking intent with chances at a premium, players being played out of position and in my opinion the wrong personnel being used for how we are trying to play.

It appears that especially away from home we are trying to play on the counter attack but Pulis is without question selecting the wrong players for this game plan.

The vital ingredient needed is pace and as much as Rodriguez works hard and Chadli has the ability to skip past a player, neither of them are blessed with raw pace.

For our next game surely we have to be picking Matt Phillips and either James McClean or Chris Brunt.

The latter doesn’t offer pace but he does bring wonderful set piece ability which is a main attribute of a Tony Pulis side.

There is no doubt Pulis has to make a change or before long he could find himself looking for a new club.
